We went to Medan last April (2013). Took the flight from LCCT and the journey is quite short. It only took us 45 minutes to reach Polonia Airport (they have moved to Kuala Namu now). This is my first trip to Indonesia. My late grandparent was from Padang so i was fed with Indonesian food since i was small. I love Indonesian food and one of the reason i am so excited for this trip is because of the food. hehe
Once arrived, we was greeted with the owner of the ground agent company there, Pak Sudi. He is a very nice and funny person.
After meet and greet we were bring to the hotel in Medan city for our lunch and after that we took the bus for the journey to Brastagi. Brastagi is like Cameron highland. The weather is quite cold. Not too cold tho. After check in the hotel there, we were bring to the shopping place in Brastagi. You can shop a lot of items there, take a horse ride and eat their famous “Jagung bakar”.
After that we were taken back to the hotel to have our dinner. After dinner we went to the small town of Brastagi for our night walk and supper. We have “Teh Bandrek ” and fried bread there (i lost the picture of the bread. quite yummy). The next day we went to hike mount Sibayak. It is very tiring but once you reach the top, you will feel accomplished! haha
After freshen up in the hotel, we check out and head to Danau toba. The highlight of Medan! On the way to Danau Toba, we got to visit Sipiso piso waterfall.
When we reach Parapat, we took a big boat and heads to Samosir Island. By the way, Lake Toba (Danau Toba) is the largest volcanic lake in the world and is in Sumatra, Indonesia while Samosir island within the lake is an island within the island.
Pak Sudi inform us that the hotel has the biggest swimming pool in the world, and they do! See how does the pool connected to the lake!
After dinner we took a night walk to the shopping area to buy souvenir from Samosir island and I have my supper, nasi penyet there. hehe. The next morning, we went to visit Tomok village. There are a lot of stories here and the tour guide really make its fun. I am concentrating on his story for the full 45 minutes we’re in the tomb area!
The way he start his story is something like this “When I start my story, it is advisable for you all to sit silently and listen. It is very rude to talk to other people when someone is talking in front of you *serious face*. The tomok village people was famous for black magic, so when you can hear strange sound and see flashing light, please be known that….
…some one is taking pictures.. LOL
After done with the visit, we head back to Parapat to have our lunch at one of Muslim restaurant there. The food is quite nice!
We continue the journey to Medan by bus and it took us 5 hours before we reach Medan from Parapat. After the long journey, they know only food can make us happy again so we have our dinner at a restaurant nearby a golf range. I really love the food here. The best restaurant in Medan byfar.
After dinner, we went to night walk at Merdeka Square. There are more food there but since we are full already, we didn’t eat there. hehe.
Once reach the hotel, I went to the nearest shopping mall. I was born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, of course i need to visit the mall! :p
The next day I went to visit Pasar Ikan. It’s not that they only sell fish there but a lot of other things too. Malaysian, we like to go shopping. So, after pasar Ikan, there is this big shopping centre that sell clothes, telekung etc and I went there. Not much things there besides shopping and more shopping. I think my phone is out of battery during my last day there, hence why i did not have any picture to upload.
After finish with the shopping and walking, I was taken back to the airport. The ground agent help me with the process and whatnot. It was a tiring but fun trip!
See you soon Medan.
